Dr. S.
Battles the Sex-Crazed Reefer Zombies: The Movie: The Musical
A New, Original Horror Comedy Musical. Written by Evan Boston and
James Hartz
The Overtime
Theater
Date: August 1, 2010 at 3:00pm
This fall the Overtime Theater will proudly present a brand-new
musical based on the award-winning hit local film, Dr. S Battles the
Sex Crazed Reefer Zombies. The film-turned-musical tells the story
of Mary Jane, an all-American sweetheart who goes parking with her
boyfriend, Billy. When he smokes some atomic reefer and transforms
into a sex-crazed zombie, it's up to our hero, Dr S, to save the
day! Dr S and Mary Jane battle their way back into town in a
blood-soaked, fight-filled extravaganza of pain, gore, and rock!
After the movie by Film Classics had screened at film festivals
across the nation and even in Leeds, England, the Overtime Theater
showed it last winter to a packed house. The idea was then formed to
turn it into a live stage musical guaranteed to rock the socks off
the audience. Doctor S Battles the Sex Crazed Reefer Zombies: The
Movie: The Musical will take the story to even more outlandish
heights with the script and lyrics by the original team of director
Bryan Ortiz and writers Evan Boston and James Hartz. Jaime Ramirez
will be the music director.
Audition Requirements: Women and men of all ages are needed
(including a full-fledged zombie crew!). Please feel free to prepare
a one minute monologue from a contemporary play or horror film. Cold
readings from the script will take place. Please be ready to sing --
prepare your own one-minute cut of an upbeat contemporary song and
bring a CD for accompaniment. Please be prepared to sing a new song
from the musical. Also, please bring a headshot and acting resume.

Harvey
by Mary Chase
Boerne Community
Theatre
Date: Sunday, August 1 and Monday, August 2,
both at 7pm
Performances dates: September 17 - October 2, possible holdover to
October 3
Read thru the week of auditions and rehearsals commence the next
week
THE STORY: When Elwood P. Dowd starts to introduce his imaginary
friend, Harvey, a six-and-a-half-foot rabbit, to guests at a society
party, his sister, Veta, has seen as much of his eccentric behavior
as she can tolerate. She decides to have him committed to a
sanitarium to spare her daughter, Myrtle Mae, and their family from
future embarrassment. Problems arise, however, when Veta herself is
mistakenly assumed to be on the verge of lunacy when she explains to
doctors that years of living with Elwood's hallucination have caused
her to see Harvey also! The doctors commit Veta instead of Elwood,
but when the truth comes out, the search is on for Elwood and his
invisible companion. When he shows up at the sanitarium looking for
his lost friend Harvey, it seems that the mild-mannered Elwood's
delusion has had a strange influence on more than one of the
doctors. Only at the end does Veta realize that maybe Harvey isn't
so bad after all.
Address:

somewhat hysterical and flighty, very much a "keeping up
appearances" person
ELWOOD P. DOWD (45-65): Calm, mild-mannered, dreamy, pleasant, likes
to have a daily drink at his bar. Goes everywhere with his invisible
friend, Harvey, a six-and-a-half-foot rabbit
MRS. CHAUVENET (60-70): Wealthy, upper-class appearance, speaks
grandly, long-time family friend, fond of Elwood
NURSE KELLY (22-30): Nurse at Chumley's Rest, very pretty,
professional, likeable, interested in Dr. Sanderson
WILSON (30-45): Burly sanitarium attendant, somewhat sour but
becomes sweet on Myrtle Mae
DR. SANDERSON (30-40): Good-looking doctor at Chumley's Rest,
interested in Nurse Kelly
DR. CHUMLEY (55-65): Head of sanitarium, business-like, develops a
bond with Elwood

point of caricature, long-time family friend

the end of the play, but has some very good lines!

Characters: CASTING FOR THE FOLLOWING (all roles are open):
Bob Wallace: Baritone, to play late 20's to early 40’s. A superb
singer with a crooning style who moves very well. A major singing
star, Bob is the guiding force behind the song and dance team of
Wallace and Davis. He wears his fame easily and is a born leader,
but has some trouble with social and romantic interactions. Despite
his occasional gruffness, he is a deeply kind and principled man who
is searching for his true love.
Phil Davis: Baritenor,To play 20s to Mid 30's Must have excellent
jazz & tap skills, and strong comedic timing. The fun loving,
go-getting half of the famous showbiz team of Wallace and Davis.
Very, very funny -- a “golden age of musical theatre” clown.
Betty Haynes: Mezzo Soprano, to play mid/late 20s, possibly young-ish
early 30s. Warm vocalist who can move well. A sensible and bright
young woman who has put show business before romantic relationships
for the sake of her sister and their act. At first she doesn't want
to like Bob Wallace, then loves him, then loathes him, and so on.
Judy Haynes: Alto, to play early 20’s. Must have strong jazz and tap
dancing skills-a major song and dance performer. The younger, more
ambitious, slightly scheming Haynes sister. While wholesome and
adorable, she is sexy and flirty-a winning charmer no man can
resist.
General Henry Waverly: Non singing: To play Late 50s to Mid-60s. A
retired US Army General, adjusting to returning to civilian life in
post World War II America. Once a powerful leader, he now struggles
to run an Inn in Vermont. He remains a man of great principle and
dignity. Beneath his hard, curmudgeonly, military exterior lies a
warm, compassionate man in need of family and love.
Martha Watson: Alto, to play Late 40s to Mid-50s. A winning,
appealing character comedienne. Must move well. Once a musical
comedy star, now the general's housekeeper at the Inn, MARTHA has a
very dry, wry, honest wisecracking sense of humor. Big hearted but
completely unsentimental, she runs the General’s life despite his
protestations. She is an irrepressible meddler, but always for what
she believes to be the other guy's best interests.
Susan Waverly: Alto, 7 to 12 year old, but plays 9. Strong vocalist
who moves well. The General’s granddaughter. Susan is a lovable and
outgoing real kid. She is very smart, wise beyond her years, and
cares deeply about her grandfather. Once bitten hard by the show biz
bug, she demonstrates everything that is winning in the ultimate
child performer.
Ralph Sheldrake: Baritone, to play mid to Late 30s. Army buddy of
Bob and Phil’s, now a major television executive with the Ed
Sullivan Show. Fast-talking NY professional.
Rita and Rhoda: To play mid 20's to early 30's. Comical character
voices necessary, strong comedic timing. Bob and Phil’s two star
chorus girls, they are brash, sexy, and-fun although perhaps not the
smartest.
Ezekiel Foster: Non singing, to play Mid-40s to Late 50s, strong
comedic timing. The ultimate taciturn New Englander, who takes life
at a very slow pace.
Mike: Non singing to play Mid-20s to Late 30s, strong comedic skills
& timing. Bob and Phil’s stage manager. He has a tendency to be over
dramatic and completely hysterical, but will get things done. Never
seen without his whistle, which he uses to attempt to keep order,
and a clipboard.
Featured Vocal Ensemble: 5 men (2 tenors, 2 baritones, 1 bass) and 5
women (2 altos, 2 mezzos, 1 soprano). To play all ages. Strong
skilled vocalists, some of which will have featured solos in company
numbers.
Featured Dance Ensemble: 4 men and 4 women dancers. Extremely strong
tap & jazz dancers who also have talent/experience in ballet and
ballroom, some of which will have featured solos in company numbers.
Children's Ensemble: 4 boys and 4 girls (ages 7-14) with strong
vocals.
